A 10-inch FPV drone operates in a very different part of the power system than a conventional 5-inch quad.

The larger propeller provides a substantial amount of propeller area, making 10-inch platforms useful for applications where efficiency, endurance, payload capability or stable cruising are more important than the lightweight agility of a 5-inch drone.

Our 10 inch motors are intended for larger FPV and long-range builds where motor torque, KV, propeller compatibility and ESC capacity need to be considered together.

Why 10 Inch Motors Are Different

A 10-inch propeller is significantly larger than the propellers used on a standard 5-inch FPV drone.

That increased diameter creates a different load on the motor. The motor needs sufficient torque to spin the propeller effectively, while the KV needs to be appropriate for the battery voltage and propeller combination.

Current FPV motor reference tables list 2814, 3110, 3115 and 3214 among motor sizes used with 10-inch long-range builds, with examples around 900KV on 6S and approximately 450KV on 12S.

These are examples rather than a universal specification for every 10-inch drone.

KV Selection for 10 Inch Motors

KV becomes particularly important on larger propeller builds.

A 10-inch propeller does not need to spin at the same RPM as a 5-inch propeller to generate useful thrust. Using an unnecessarily high KV can increase current demand and heat.

The correct combination depends on:

Battery voltage
Propeller pitch
Motor stator size
Drone weight
Desired flight speed
Required thrust
Flying style

For this reason, many large-propeller long-range builds use relatively low-KV motors.

Motor and Propeller Matching

With 10-inch builds, propeller selection becomes a major part of motor selection.

You should not choose a motor first and then assume any 10-inch propeller will work.

A more reliable process is:

Choose the aircraft's purpose → select the propeller → choose motor KV and size → check current → select the ESC.

This is particularly important on large builds because current can rise quickly when a motor is loaded with an aggressive propeller.

Recent 10-inch motor testing demonstrates why this matters: a 3115 900KV motor with a 10×5×3 propeller was measured at more than 80A at maximum load in one test. The same data showed considerably lower current at lower thrust levels.

So an ESC should never be selected simply because the motor and ESC are both advertised as “6S compatible.”

10 Inch Motors for Long Range

Long-range 10-inch drones are generally designed around efficiency and sustained flight rather than rapid acceleration.

This changes how you should evaluate a motor.

Maximum thrust is useful, but efficiency at cruising throttle can be more important for a long-range aircraft.

A motor that produces huge peak thrust but consumes excessive power may be less useful for a drone whose main goal is endurance.

Keeping the aircraft lightweight and choosing an appropriate propeller can also have a significant effect on efficiency.

10 Inch Motors for Heavier Builds

Larger FPV platforms can also be built to carry additional equipment.

As aircraft weight increases, the motors need to generate more thrust to maintain stable flight. The required motor size therefore depends not only on the 10-inch propeller but also on the aircraft's all-up weight.

This is why there is no single motor that can be labelled the “best 10-inch motor.”

A lightweight long-range cruiser and a heavier equipment-carrying platform can require very different power systems.

Choosing a 10 Inch Motor

Before purchasing, carefully check:

Motor stator dimensions
KV rating
Battery voltage
Propeller size
Propeller pitch
Maximum current
Recommended ESC
Motor weight
Mounting pattern
Manufacturer thrust data

Most importantly, look at the manufacturer's thrust and current tables for the exact motor and propeller combination.

This is much more useful than comparing KV numbers alone.

Build the Power System as One Package

A 10-inch FPV drone should be treated as a complete power system:

Motor + Propeller + Battery + ESC

Changing the propeller can change current consumption significantly.

Changing from 6S to 12S changes the appropriate KV.

Adding a heavier battery increases aircraft weight.

Adding payload increases the thrust required to stay airborne.

All of these factors influence motor selection.
